RANT: Taking this picture yesterday at Zoë’s in-class birthday party makes me think of what is “right” and precious in this world. Hearing about the school shooting puts my life as a MOM in perspective.

My job is to protect my kids while at the same time, teaching them a number of important skills including: kindness, empathy, confidence, patience and respect of others.

No one can ever truly prepare to protect our kids from the “monsters” out there but what we can do, is foster an environment where our children know that we are there for them, we believe in them and most of all, we support them.

While I’m shocked and dismayed by the horrific events that transpired yesterday, sadly, I know this won’t be the last we hear of it. I believe that as a community, we can do more. Fight for increased gun/ammunition control. This isn’t just an “American” issue, it’s a global problem.

I’m not usually one to get super political (I left that part in grad school) but something needs to be said and done. Enough “our thoughts and prayers” and more concrete action. We need solutions and we need them now. I’m truly worried for the future of our children and you should be too! #schoolshooting #guncontrol #guncontrolnow#actionnow #helpourkids
